You are Beautiful

Don’t look at me
Everyday is so wonderful
Then suddenly
It’s hard to breathe
Now and then I get insecure
From all the pain
I’m so ashamed

I am beautiful
No matter what they say
Words can’t bring me down
I am beautiful
In every single way
Yes words can’t bring me down
Oh no
So don’t you bring me down today

To all your friends you’re delirious
So consumed
In all your doom, ooh
Trying hard to fill the emptiness
The pieces gone
Left the puzzle undone
Ain’t that the way it is

You are beautiful
No matter what they say
Words can’t bring you down
Oh no
You are beautiful
In every single way
Yes words can’t bring you down
Oh no
So don’t you bring me down today

No matter what we do (no matter what we do)
No matter what we say (no matter what we say)
We’re the song inside the tune (yeah, oh yeah)
Full of beautiful mistakes

And everywhere we go (and everywhere we go)
The sun will always shine (the sun will always, always, shine)
And tomorrow we might awake
On the other side

‘Cause we are beautiful
No matter what they say
Yes words won’t bring us down
Oh no
We are beautiful
In every single way
Yes words can’t bring us down
Oh no
So don’t you bring me down today

Oh, oh oh
Don’t you bring me down today, yeah
Don’t you bring me down, ooh
Today

MESSAGE:

Minding what people could tell about you would just lead to self-ruin. Human beings are all innately flawed and uniquely made. Hence, there should be no one to boast and compare. At the end of the day, beauty comes from self belief and confidence. You are beautiful no matter what they say.

The For’s of a Strong Woman

Strength and honor are her clothing; she is confident about the future.
-Proverbs 31:25 (CEB)

Are you a woman who experienced heartache, pain, hardship, failure or controversy which made you feel helpless, depressed and hopeless? Well, I would like to recognize and commend you…

  • for keep on holding and fighting even though it was evidently ineffective and hopeless
  • for quitting from forcing yourself to someone/something who/which didn’t see and deserve your worth no matter how you badly loved it
  • for bearing the aches and hardships on your own, without blaming someone or something who caused you pain and difficulty
  • for sobbing at night under your sheet privately and quietly when you were tormented; not bothering and involving your loved ones because you knew they would be greatly affected if they were informed
  • for relying on your bed when you felt like breaking down and just hugging your pillow every time you needed someone whom you could embrace
  • for shedding your tears for a long time while waiting for the right time of mending
  • for not searching any answer of complete healing and comfort except from God
  • for forgiving those people who hurt you whole-heartedly and trying to advance from the bad memories no matter how painful and unforgettable the past actions were
  • for rising up from solitary, devastation, and brokenness and anticipating for a new beginning
  • for picking up those broken pieces of yours and trying your best to fix it into a whole
  • for learning to love yourself first more and making it better; and
  • for possessing a great faith that “there is a better future ahead of you”.

Congratulations for being still in the midst of challenges, ’cause not all women succeeded the race of life. You have rewarded yourself forgiveness, acceptance, betterment, endurance, and love. Moreover, you have definitely inspired many for being a strong woman. Just keep on going and believing because your great reward is ahead of you. So, c’mon girl, finish the race!

“What to Do and Where to Go?” (A Journal for an Undecided Career)

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

-Proverbs 3:5-6 (ESV)

“What do you want to be in the future?”

Were you also asked this when you were young? As I remember, once, I dreamt to become a teacher, then a chemist, to a psychologist, or a broadcaster. But God brought me to Bachelor of Arts in English course, which happened accidentally and unexpectedly. More of public speaking, analysis, reading, and writing were what this course taught me.

It has been four years that passed since I graduated. I have four job experiences already. I taught online, tutored various learners, handled teaching in a classroom setting, and now currently proofreading. Reflectively, I didn’t stay long in any field of work. Why, it was because I didn’t feel any contentment. I didn’t know if I whole-heartedly wanted to do those. I didn’t see myself in there. But mostly, I still honestly don’t know what to do and where to go.

When I was a kid, I used to write comic strips or wrote about random things. I even captioned my own drawings while listening to old songs and dissected its lyric lines to understand and feel its meaning. I wanted to be alone, most especially when I was in the library being surrounded by books. Its smell was an aroma for me. Moreover, I was challenged everytime we were asked to take down important information about a specific matter and felt excited everytime I was about to share it to a crowd. Futhermore, when something unusual happened to me, there was just one thing that I could run to without any hesitation and feeling of condemnation — my notebook. That is why collecting of notebooks, stationaries, pens, and materials as part of a specific memory has been my hobby ever since. It eases my overthinking everytime I write.

On the other hand, I played the role of being a teacher as part of my childhood also. I enjoyed standing in front of my student even just one, writing with a chalk onto the cabinet or wall, and also doing my own test papers. Eventually, when I encountered some romantic pocket books published by a well-known company when I grew older, I told myself, “One day, I’ll be working in that company”. Of what position? That time I didn’t know.

I kept searching for different part-time jobs in the morning just to try something new always, but when they were asking me to start the job, I was suddenly declining it. It became an “apply-start-refuse” process. Well, again, it was due to self-disatisfaction. I just got tired of searching for the answer because of my impatience.

I did everything I could to find what is for me. I retrospected what I wanted together with my skills, talents, and hardworks. But still, it wasn’t able to help me discover myself. Sometimes, I got pissed off, depressed and hopeless. But then, I realized that there is One who knows me better than myself — my Creator. He knows what’s ahead of me.

He made me realize that my every present is a bridge to my destination. He just wants me to learn how to be contented and grateful for every now that I possess. Thus, presently, I’m just siezing my leisure time in watching, reading, and writing, which I am having fun right now. My professional job isn’t that tiresome as well. He wants me to enjoy the process of learning.

Now, I’m always reminding myself to keep calm and let God direct. He is the author of my story. Just trust His process.

Who Do You Think Deserves to Bring Home the Trophy the Most: Peter Dinklage or Alfie Allen?

(A formulated debate on who’s the most deserving to bring home the “Best Supporting Actor” by drama-series category of the recent Emmy Awards night)

The popular series Game of Thrones received a lot of nominations from the last 71st Primetime Emmy Awards, which happened last Sunday. Its giving of prestigious recognitions happens yearly honoring hollywood actors and actresses who showcase excellence in U.S. prime time televsion programming chosen by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

Way back 2016, the said series made an Emmy history due to the numerous awards it took home. This year, they have failed to gain many but have brought home two of the the major awards: “Most Outstanding Drama Series” and “Best Supporting Actor by Drama Series” which has received personally by Peter Dinklage. This is his fourth to receive the award for the said category this year. However, upon the recognition, GOT fans have divided opinions about his winning since his co-GOT-actor Alfie Allen was also nominated.

Peter had no wonder portrayed his role as an imp “Tyrion Lannister” very well, but you could not also deny the fact that Allen as a cuntless “Theon Greyjoy” played his role excellently.

Personally, I favoured them both, but Emmy has already decided. How about you, who do you think deserves to take the trophy the most: Peter Dinklage or Alfie Allen?

Game of Thrones (Top 10 Favorite Characters)

Valar morghulis – “All men must die.”
Valar dohaeris – “All men must serve.”

Game of Thrones has a total of eight seasons with multiple characters which aired on HBO for eight years. It was one of the Hollywood series that viewers were really hooked, not only because of its commendable concept and story flow but also because of its well-portrayed characters.

Now, let me show you my top 10 favorite ones.

10. Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen)

Theon Greyjoy of House Greyjoy is the youngest son of Lord Balon Greyjoy of the Iron Islands. He belongs to the family who owns an influx of ships. Became a villain at some point towards the Starks in spite of treating him as a family member, but died as a hero protecting them (Sansa and Bran).

  • From being a traitor turned cuntless, he ended his life paying off the goodness and trust of the Starks.

9. Brianne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie)

She is a highly trained and skilled warrior made dangerous by the fact that men underestimate her. From being Renly Baratheon’s “kings guard” to Catelyn Stark’s service oath-keeper.

Sandor Clegane (Rory McCain)
For his savage nature, he is known as “the Hound”, a retainer to House Lannister. He is laconic yet brutal, but not without compassion. He has a lifelong fear of fire because of his childhood experience with his brother that caused a grievous burn on his face.

Lord Varys (Conleth Hill)
He is known as “the Spider”, and “Master of Whisperers”. He holds no inherited title, castle or lands in Westeros, but is called “lord” as a courtesy due to his position on the council because of being a spymaster, intelligent agent and skilled manipulator. He also commands a network of informants across two continents.

  • These three characters tie on the 9th place because of one commonality. They didn’t recognize any ruler whom they could serve loyally, rather, they fought and lived for their own goals and purposes without any fear.

8.Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner)
Sansa Stark is the first daughter of Eddard and Catelyn Stark. She is a pretty and elegant lady who becomes the strongest and wisest version of herself upon the tragedies she’s been through with the cruel kings she got married, namely Jeffrey and Rickon.

  • Her femininity didn’t hinder her to survive the iniquities and tragedies along her way. It led her to trust no one.

7. Brandon Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright)
Brandon “Bran” Stark of House Stark is the fourth child of the Starks. From being a crippled child due to being shoved off from the window by Jaime after witnessing him with Cersei having an incestuous engagement to a “Three-eyed Raven”.

  • A lot risked their lives for him, but that was for a great purpose. He deserves to be the seven-kingdoms’ ruler not only because of his gift, but dominantly because of his absence of greed for power.

6. Danaerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke)
Daenerys Targaryen is an exiled princess of the Targaryen dynasty. Famously known as “Khaleesi” which means mother of Dothrakis upon marrying the warlord Khal Drogo, “Stormborn”, and “Mother of the three dragons”.

  • She knew that courage was her strength because of her firm goal to get the Iron throne together with her dragons, but still looked for good company and advisors.

5. Ser Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen)
Ser Jorah Mormont of House Mormont is an exiled knight in the service of Daenerys Targaryen. He becomes the loyal knight at the same time advisor of Daenerys in her journey regaining the Iron throne who supposedly acts as a spy of Varys to her due to the crime he committed.

  • He is an excellent warrior and a loyal colleague. But above all, his unconditional love for Danaerys is priceless.

4. Jon Snow (Kit Harington)
Jon Snow is said to be Stark’s “bastard”, but biologically the son of Rhaegar Targaryen — has the right for the Iron Throne. He is a very talented fighter with compassion and justice. He woke up from death and became everyone’s loved and preferred leader.

  • He is a good fighter and leader with a compassionate heart. He proved to everybody that he was not just a “bastard”. Moreover, he became a hero for multiple instances.

3. Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey)
Cersei Lannister of House Lannister and House Baratheon, Queen of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, becomes the wife of King Robert Baratheon. She’s the sister of Tyrion and her twin brother Jaime whom she has an incestuous affair with. Her strong desire for power and her deep loyalty to her father, children, and brother Jaime make her the cunningest and fearless version of herself.

  • Yes, she is a villain … a very calm villain. Her boldness and wisdom helped her to keep ruling independently despite of many people trying to pull her down.

2. Tyrion Lannister (Peter Drinklage)
Tyrion Lannister of House Lannister is the younger brother of Cersei and Jaime Lannister, known as “the Imp” or “Halfman” which causes him to be underestimated. While not physically advantageous, Tyrion has a clever mind and sharp tongue that help him to live throughout his independent journey.

  • Whenever he talks, you would really listen and wait for the learning and quotation you would catch from him. He chose dignity over family.

1. Arya Stark (Masie Williams)
Arya from the House Stark. First of her name. Younger daughter of Ned and Catelyn Stark. Very much opposite of her sister Sansa because of being headstrong, feisty, independent, blunt, and impulsive. Described as “wolf-blooded”, “skin-changer”, “face-chaging serial killer”, “killer of the night king”, “slayer of the white walkers”, and “savior of the seven kingdoms”. Has become this version herself because of a “No One”.

  • I witnessed her growth from being nothing to “No One”. She strived her very best to get what she likeed and be what she wanted. Fearless, independent, fierce, and unstoppable – that’s what she is.

And if I were to add five more, here they are:

Jaime Lannister

Margeory Tyrell

Ser Davos

Jaquen H’gar

Tormund

And they summed it all. Hope you like it!

Goblin / The Lonely and Great God (Korean Drama, 2016)

(16 epsiodes)

“Life is a momentary thing. You come & you go.”

“Even if I were to die tomorrow, I must live today.”

(Eun Tak)

Synopsis:
Kim Shin (Gong Yoo) also known as the “goblin” and protector of souls by chance summoned by Ji Eun-tak (Kim Go-eun), a high school student who’s facing difficulty in life that before was about to die with her mom while still inside her womb during a car accident but saved by the goblin. She is the human bride that Kim Shin is looking for a hundred years to remove the sword from his body as the only way to end his immortality. Unintentionally, he falls in love with Eun-tak, which leads him to decide if he’ll let his fated bride remove it from him and finally die or retain it with him to keep living but risks Eun-tak’s life, as there is this “grim reaper” (Lee Dong-wook) who’s looking for the missing soul which is hers. Hence, this grim reaper who is responsible for the deceased souls meets and falls in love with Sunny (Yoo In-na) whose soul is reincarnated from Kim Shin’s sister. Reflectively, the story intertwines within these four characters.

Moral:

  • Let our difficulties in life be the reason for us to be stronger and more mature.
  • There maybe times that you think sadness and mourning won’t stop. Just wait patiently, yet productively. Your happiness will come in its perfect time.
  • Always forgive, no matter how big the mistake it caused you. It eases burden.
  • Every individual has its own time line: day of birth – day of death. Make the most of the hyphen (-). Not everyone has given a second chance to live.

Verdict:

This series reflects the belief of the Koreans when it comes to reincarnation.
I love the concept with its catchy OST’s. It’s very creative. I like its twists particularly on how these four main characters relate to each other. But above all, I would like to commend all the main artists of this drama. Chemistry wise. Powerhouse! It seems like it’s an acting showdown between the “legends” Gong Yoo and Lee Dong-wook. On the other hand, Kim Go-eun and Yoon In-na’s portrayals are also so effective. Thus, it makes the series more interesting for me.

If it pinched my heart, yours will be also! You’ll learn how to value each day of your life.

I’m looking forward for its upcoming seasons until Eun-taks’s fourth life.

Hello, Love, Goodbye (Philippine Movie, 2019)

“May mga lugar na pangmatagalan. May mga lugar na dinadaanan lang. Parang Hong Kong. Katulad ng tao. May mga taong dumadaan lang sa buhay natin. May mga taong babaguhin ka panghabambuhay.” – Joy

(“There are places for the long term. There are locations that just pass by. It’s like Hong Kong. Similar with people. There are people who just go through our lives. There are people who will change you forever.”)

Synopsis:

Joy (Kathryn Bernardo) is a nursing graduate who turns out to be a domestic helper in Hong Kong, wherein she works hard for her family and saves money in order for her to produce visa to work in Canada as her dream. There, she meets Ethan (Alden Richards), a fellow Filipino working as a bartender. He’s known as a play boy upon heartbreak from his ex-girlfriend, but changed when he meets Joy. However, Joy is very aloof at first due to being so focused earning money for her family. Eventually, she also falls in love with Ethan seeing his sincerity towards her. But, latterly, Joy still sticks and chooses her dream going to Canada rather than staying in Hong Kong with Ethan.

Moral:

  • Living a life has always a choice to make. Sometimes you need to sacrifice something in order to choose another. Thus, think of a decision that you would not regret at the end.
  • It is fine to be selfless, but don’t make it a reason to abandon yourself. Sometimes, being selfish is not an act of cruelty, rather, a self-value.
  • In every dream you make, don’t forget to include your loved ones in your success.

Verdict:

Kathryn and Alden are known for being great actors of their generation, but in this film, they really proved a lot. I was really in awe of how Bernardo affected the viewers with her scenes, on the other hand, I wanted to commend Richards for answering Kath’s acting. The fact also that they’re really not original “love team” but they were able to showcase great chemistry on the screen should really be praised.
Simple comedy scenes added an impact, plus the unforgettable quotations and messages of this film. No wonder this would be another record breaker of Philippine movie history.
Kuddos to a block-buster Director Kathy Garcia Molina, its writer/s, and staff. Job well done!
